ICEBERG BOAT TOUR BY RIB Boat tour among the famous icebergs
Get up close to the icebergs

Head out from Nanortalik on an open RIB boat to explore the icebergs that often drift through this area. With a local guide and experienced captain, you’ll weave between ice, mountains, and coastal views, learning how ice has shaped daily life and history in South Greenland. The captain approaches icebergs carefully and only as close as conditions allow. Wildlife is possible but never guaranteed; you may see seabirds, seals, or, occasionally, whales. Expect fresh air, some spray, and a route that adapts to wind, waves, and ice.

Join a local guide and captain for a focused iceberg experience just outside Nanortalik. This tour is run in an open RIB (rigid inflatable boat), which is a fast, stable craft designed to move safely through coastal waters and among drifting ice when conditions allow. For comfort and safety, we provide flotation suits for all guests to wear during the tour.

Nanortalik sits in a region where ice is a regular part of the landscape. At different times of year, especially in spring, drift ice and icebergs can travel down the coast, changing the seascape from week to week, sometimes even from day to day. Your guide will share what you’re seeing in real time, including how ice connects to Greenland’s natural cycles and why it has mattered for travel, hunting, and survival.

Once on the water, the captain navigates at a pace that suits the sea state and the amount of ice present. We aim to get you close enough to appreciate the shapes, colors, and scale of the ice, while keeping a safe distance. If conditions are calm and the ice is stable, there may be a chance to briefly touch the ice, but this is never promised and depends entirely on safety.

Wildlife sightings are always a bonus rather than an expectation. Keep your eyes open for seabirds, seals, and, in some periods, whales further out. You’ll also have great views back toward Nanortalik’s surrounding mountains and coastline before returning to the harbor.
